Emma used to be a star soccer player. Then, on the night before the championship, she crashed. Four friends plus her in a car. All were having fun, but then a drunk crashed into them, only her. One other survived, if that's what you'd call it. She was paralyzed from the waist down. Now she needs therapy and pick me up. Will thee new kid be any good?

"That´s in the past" I lied , not wanting to make her feel bad at the moment . Her girl friends and her used to make fun of me , making up I was gay ,because I had rejected Emma once , when she had wanted to throw herself at me.

"Yeah, because that person is dead." I said as the bell rang. I gathered my things and leave. He didn't lie very well. And I'm smart enough to know that he wasn't going to just get over everything in a second. Or one conversation. Which was why I was done with people. I couldn't do it.

I go to my locker and try to get my books. I looked at the top shelf where my book was. The one I needed. I tried to reach it but I was many inches too far and clearly wasn't getting anywhere, but those around me was laughing at me.

I was reaching for the book when I heard people taking out their phones and taking pictures. This day couldn't get any worse. I had a bad time and I was close to breaking. I squeezed my eyesshut while I reached for it to keep from breaking down in front of them.

I walked out of the classroom after the bell rang. I took a deep sigh , not really feeling like going to next period.

I finally just gave up on the book. I put all the other books back and shut my locker. Then I went towards the doors.

When I turned my head to the side, I caught sight of Emma. Was she leaving school that day early ?

I went outside to breathe. At this rate I'd be homeschooled. There's no one alive to stick up for me. The ones who would I had ticked off before so now this is like sweet revenge for them. While I was out there people were receiving a video about how desperate and stupid I looked getting my book today. I realized my bag was in my locker with my phone inside. So I had some options, wait until class, start the long roll home, or wait until 6 hours pass and mom picks me up.

I stayed there until the halls were clear. Then I went back to my locker.

I get my phone.

When I walked out of the guys´bathroom , I noticed she had one back to her locker. "Do you need any help ? I won´t laugh or judge you like the others, you know"

"No, I think I should go home. Try again tomorrow." I said and looked at him. "I know you won't laugh at me or you would've done it before."

"Even though we didn't have any good encounters I can just say that you're still good."

"Maybe or maybe not " I shrugged , smiling. "Everyone has a bad and a good side"

"Yeah, the only problem is its easier not to show your good side."

"It doesn't matter I guess," I said. I looked at my locker completely dejected.

I sighed again. It wasn't really worth coming back here. Not at all.

"Don´t let their comments affect you , I insist" I told her.

"It's not really their comments it's just I don't understand."

"What is it that you don´t understand?"

"Well I wasn't the nicest person but I wasn't the meanest either. And I just got out of the hospital lucky enough to have survived and everyone is laughing at me. I never thought anyone in a wheelchair or handicapped was funny. So why do they want to laugh at me?" I said.

"Because they are careless , mean and pathetic. It´s very simple. They are rotten people. I´m not saying I´m a saint , but at least I don´t laugh at anyone in a wheelchair or at handicapped people"

"I never would, even before," I said.

"So , are you going to ditch the rest of the classes, or what ?"

"Well, I guess not. But I will this one. Could you do me a favor and grab any books from the top two shelves please?" I asked and moved back so he could have access.
